Sang-Won Kim

Sang-Won has over 27 years of experience guiding his clients in making large capital investment decisions and developing decision support systems across the energy and natural resources value chain.
Sang-Won was previously a Partner at Strategic Decisions Group, where he led its energy and natural resources practice, and served as Managing Director at IHS Energy Consulting, now part of S&P Global. He holds a Ph.D. in management science from Stanford University and is a native of Korea.
His recent major engagements include:
- For a global chemical company, supporting the executive team in developing commercial and execution strategies for a low-carbon ammonia project in the US Gulf of Mexico
- For a global lithium producer, conducting comprehensive risk assessments for developing a new mine in North America and quantifying the impact of key risks including permitting, subsurface, and infrastructure
- For a consortium of unconventional resource owners, leading a decision process to generate and evaluate a wide range of innovative early-stage technology solutions to reduce water usage and carbon footprints
- For a supermajor oil company, leading the application of Artificial Intelligence based approach to its deepwater development concept select decisions and co-authoring a paper
- For a major Canadian oil sands operator, leading its partners to identify billions of dollars in regional value from swapping leases with nearby operators and minimizing capital investment in new facilities
