Jon Crane brings over 37 years of international experience with Shell, where he held senior leadership roles across complex, large-scale, multi-partner projects. Throughout his career, Jon has worked closely with global stakeholders, including government agencies, to drive strategic development initiatives and transformative outcomes in the energy sector.
He is known for his passion for decision quality and performance transparency—two critical levers he consistently uses to accelerate change and unlock business value. A pragmatic leader, Jon blends technical depth with a strong focus on value delivery, making him a sought-after mentor and speaker.
Highlights:
- Front-End Development Manager for high-CAPEX projects at Shell, including the Draugen Redevelopment Program, Haltenbank CCS capture project, and Bonga SW & infield developments.
- Architect and leader of Shell’s Wells Digital Transformation Program, achieving significant CAPEX reductions across a $7 billion capital spend.
- As Drilling Manager for Norske Shell, turned around the delayed multi-billion-dollar Ormen Lange project by introducing groundbreaking technical solutions, including “flowing to host” and deploying X-trees on wire.
- Served as Development Planning & Economics Lead for Shell’s global projects organization in Europe, where he led a transformation in decision-making practices—reshaping how Shell trains its decision-makers and front-end developers worldwide.
- As VP Technology, Quality & Technical Services, pioneered disruptive technologies such as autonomous drilling, automated BOP testing, acoustic leak detection, and HPHT artificial lift. He also established global quality standards in partnership with API and major oilfield service providers.
Jon holds a BSc in Engineering Science from Durham University and is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE).
