David is a director and independent consultant with more than 40 years’ experience in the energy industry. He combines deep technical understanding with strategic and governance expertise, helping organisations make better decisions and deliver lasting value.
Highlights:
- Served as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Alberta Energy Regulator, guiding oversight and governance across the province’s energy sector.
- Founded and leads Orelian Consulting Ltd., advising energy companies on strategic decision-making through the application of decision quality principles.
- Spent over a decade in senior roles with Encana and Cenovus, leading functions spanning exploration, international business development, strategy and planning, refining and marketing, and operations.
- Earlier roles with PanCanadian Petroleum and Imperial Oil/Exxon included geophysical, economic analysis, and managerial positions across Calgary and Houston.
David holds a B.Sc. in Geophysics from the University of Waterloo and an MBA from the University of Calgary.
He is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) and holds the designation of ICD, Director (ICD.D.).
