Duncan John
Duncan is a co-founder of StrategicFit with nearly fifteen years of experience helping organisations make better strategic decisions.
He has led consulting engagements in petroleum, power, automotive, life sciences, chemicals, consumer electronics and finance. He has advised senior executives on strategic issues in leading global companies, including Royal Dutch Shell, BP, Talisman, Eon, Abbott Labs, GSK, Philips, Pfizer, and General Motors. Duncan’s experience includes:
- Helping an oil supermajor decide the future of an upstream country organisation with around $5bn in revenues. For this he helped the leadership team create an action plan for the new strategy.
- Formulating strategies that contributed hundreds of millions of dollars of extra value for many oil and gas assets in the North Sea.
- Helping a consortium of joint venture partners reach agreement over transportation of natural gas to market as part of a multi-billion dollar development project
- Leading the evaluation of strategic options and developing a business plan for the board of a supermajor oil company for the commercialisation of a new technology. £300m of funding was approved
- Leading cross-functional teams to evaluate 11 development R&D portfolio investment options for a Fortune 100 US pharmaceuticals client
- Creating a resource strategy to enable the European consumer healthcare group within a global life sciences company adjust its R&D organisation to meet new portfolio demands after a merger
- Conducting a strategic evaluation of several multi-billion dollar M&A options for a Fortune 100 automotive company.
Duncan supported Shell in its lead role in writing one of several strategy reports commissioned by the Norwegian Energy Minister via the Norwegian petroleum industry body, Konkraft. He also addressed the Norwegian Exploration Managers’ conference in September 2008.
He was a Senior Director at CERA / IHS, and before that a Senior Engagement Manager at Strategic Decisions Group.
Duncan graduated from Brasenose College, Oxford University, with an MA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics. He is a Lead Practitioner in the Society of Decision Professionals.
